The 7 biggest mistakes people make on a Raw Food Diet

Diet Mistake #1:

MAKING TRANSITIONAL FOODS MAIN STAPLES

Most people eat too many fats and sugars when they are transitioning to raw foods. They overload on dates, nuts, figs, and almond butter. Green leafy vegetables are the perfect food to transition with. Add them to any food that you eat and they will help the body digest anything. Six powerful healthy habits to implement when you are transitioning to a plant-based diet are:

  • Eat at least one green salad each day, two if you can.

  • Start out each day with lighter foods and move toward heavier foods later in the day. Heavy foods for breakfast can weigh an individual down throughout the day.

  • Remember to drink plenty of water. Try to drink water 30 minutes before meals. Drinking water during or after a meal dilutes the digestive juices and interferes with proper digestion.

  • Change it up! Enjoy and experiment by adding a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, seaweeds, sprouts, grasses, herbs, flowers, and super foods.

  • Take the time to enjoy your food by chewing it properly. The famous Dr. Fletcher recommended 50 chews per mouthful. You will enjoy your food MORE and wind up eating LESS!

  • Remember! Don’t overdo it on nuts and fats like almond butter, cashews, dates, and figs. Make sure you are eating a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, protein, and starches.

Diet Mistake # 2:
GOING 100% RAW “COLD TURKEY”

In general, a person should become a raw foodist INCREMENTALLY. Make sure that as you are transitioning you are eating a balanced diet. Start by adding raw plant-based foodsinto your diet and increasing the amount of “good stuff”. The “good stuff” will push all the bad, toxic stuff out. With time, the taste buds will change and the body acclimates to new, cleaner foods, and progress with raw food becomes easier. Everyone

should transition at a pace that is outside their comfort zone, but not in their shock zone.

Becoming a raw foodist doesn’t need to happen overnight. It is a lifetime goal. So honor your body and your mind by taking your time and not going “cold turkey”. It is less likely that you will backslide into old, unhealthy eating habits.

REMEMBER: A 100% raw food diet is not necessarily for everyone! As long as we are conscious about our food choices, are eating organic, mineral-rich raw food, and seeking out that perfect health balance, we are making progress. In general, an 80% raw plant diet seems to be a more workable approach to more people and is, in fact, enough to save the planet! Decide what works for you in your lifestyle.

Some quick tips to get you started!

  • Start small. Set goals for yourself: First go 100% raw for a day. Then extend that to a week, or a month. Set a specific date in advance and mark each successful day on a calendar.

  • Understand that after you go 100% raw for five to seven months straight, your body will not readily accommodate a return to a previous cooked-food diet because you will be too cleansed, sensitized and purified for your body to handle them.

  • Educate yourself. Read articles, listen to the audio downloads, and watch videos and about natural, raw plant-food nutrition. Discuss he idea with others. What you think about, comes about. For the best nutritional information on-line, go to

Diet Mistake #3:

CONFUSING A RAW CLEANSING DIET WITH A RAW NURTURING/HEALING DIET

A raw nurturing/healing diet is a diet that works for you. A raw cleansing diet is a rigorous, intense program designed to push out toxins that are causing a lot of damage to the body. People who have serious illnesses such as stage four cancer should go on this  type of program.

If you’re not seriously ill and have little time to improve your health, then there is no need to take on such a high level of intensity in your eating. It is dangerous and most likely you will return back to familiar food habits. It can also “shock” your system and cause problems with your digestion.

Always eat a healthy balanced diet that is right for your body. You should feel great at the end of the day, filled with energy and an abundance of joy.

Diet Mistake #4:

NOT UNDERSTANDING THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RAW AND LIVING FOOD

There are some foods that are raw but don’t contain as powerful a  life force as others. The best raw foods are those that contain the  most life force or are “living”.

The goal is to eat the highest quality food possible-the best ever!

The more mineralized and natural your food, the more mineralized and natural you will become. Wild foods are your best option.

Diet Mistake #5:

BEING UNPREPARED AT HOME:

Don’t wait until you are hungry to prepare food! The more prepared you are, the easier it is, and generally the more you will enjoy what you do eat. If you are unprepared then chances are old, unhealthy eating habits might arise and next thing you know you’re tempted to go out and eat a bagel!

Plan ahead. Always make sure to have emergency snacks readily available to help you eat healthy.

Quick snacks that will satisfy your appetite AND give you lots of energy:

• A handful of raw, organic water-soaked almonds

• Pumpkin seeds

• Goji berries

• Your favorite piece of fruit

• An avocado eaten with sea salt

• Young coconut with inner flesh

• A handful of hemp seeds

Super Quick Recipe that will satisfy your cravings:

Raw Candy

10 dates

10 almonds

Your favorite raw food topping!

Pit the dates. Insert the almond into the pit hole of each date. Pure  decadence! Dip these treats into YOUR favorite raw food topping:cacao nibs, nutmeg, allspice, bee pollen, spirulina, blue-green algae. This simple, quick recipe is guaranteed to satisfy those taste buds!

SOCIAL SITUATIONS:

If you know you are going to a restaurant and they most likely will have limited food choices, bring one or two avocados and/or one or two apples with you. Order a salad, and mix the avocados and/or apples in with it. Generally, restaurants do not serve organic food,

but we have to do the best we can in each circumstance. Suggest a restaurant you know you can eat in. Or go on a picnic. If you’re going to dinner at a friend’s house, bring a few of your favourite dishes. Share them with others.

TRAVELING:

Here are some of the best traveling foods ever that you are easy to pack and eat while on the run!

• Cucumbers

• Nuts

• Seeds for eating and sprouting

• Dried fruit

• Himalayan pink salt

• Celtic sea salt

• Blue-green algae

• Cacao beans

• Goji berries

• Wolfberries

• Grass powders

• Spirulina

Maintaining healthy eating habits is easy in countries like Europe and Mexico, especially during the summer when fresh fruit stands are abundant. In tropical countries fresh coconuts become a staple while traveling.

Water is another factor while traveling. Airplane travel dehydrates the body as cabin air is extremely dry. Be sure to bring quality water with you while flying. If you are in a less-developed country with a questionable water supply, boil your water to kill any parasites and then recharge it by placing pink salt or sea salt, MSM powder, large quartz crystals and fresh lemon juice in the water before drinking it. Water-borne parasites are a primary source of illness in less-developed countries.

Consider packing powdered cayenne with you on your travels. Powdered cayenne has been shown to protect against water-borne amoebic dysentery, a common ailment afflicting travelers in less developed nations. Powdered cinnamon has also been shown to bevery effective .

Eating while traveling requires planning ahead. Make sure you have everything you need BEFORE you leave!

HOW TO BE PREPARED AND DEAL WITH BAD EATING HABITS AND CRAVINGS:

• Be aware that certain cooked-food cravings present themselves  when you are tired (at the end of a long day). Be prepared. Go to sleep early if necessary. Drink a glass of pure water with a twist of fresh lemon. Persist; break the old cycles and soon the desire disappears. Cravings are always temporary.

• Eat only when actual hunger exists. Avoid “emotional” or

“boredom” eating.

• Food itself is an anchor that accesses different emotional states. To break food addictions, identify which emotional state you are trying to reach and then discover a way to get there without food. Periods of food obsession will pass, just stay the course. Work through emotional addictions to food. You can do it. Ask for help.

Diet Mistake #6:

USING A RAW FOOD DIET TO STAND OUT RATHER THAN FIT IN

Whatever diet we choose to follow should be determined by how it makes us feel. If it is beneficial for us to eat a 100% plant-based diet, then that is great for us. However, being 100% raw is not necessarily the best choice for everyone.

It is important to respect the choices that others make. We should never make others feel judged or uncomfortable about their food choices. We should always try and make others feel comfortable and not make a big deal about being raw. We never want to seem extreme or critical. That will turn people off of raw food!

By showing a good example and eating healthy, we can influence others much more powerfully by our choices and our actions than by giving long-winded speeches on why eating raw is the best!

Diet Mistake #7:

THINKING JUST BECAUSE IT IS RAW IT IS HEALTHY

Not all raw food is created equal. Just because you’re eating something raw and not cooked does not necessarily mean that it is the best food ever.

RAW FOODS THAT ARE NOT THE BEST EVER:

HYBRID FOODS:

Hybrid foods are foods that will not grow in Nature. According to Dr. David Jubb, hybrid foods are missing “vital electrics.” They are foods which must be nurtured and protected by humans, or else they will be overcome by birds, insects, worms, fungi and bacteria. Hybrid foods are devoid of the proper mineral balance all wild foods contain.

• Carrots

• Potatoes

• Corn

• Beets

RAW MEAT:

There is a lot of controversy surrounding the topic of eating raw meat. According to David Wolfe, eating a diet consisting of 10% or more raw animal flesh leads to or exacerbates major physical,

psycho-social issues including:

• Addictive behavior

• Emotional Imbalance

• Body odor

• Cancer

• Immobility

• Infertility

• Susceptibility to parasites

SEEDLESS FRUITS:

• Bananas

• Seedless apples

• Seedless grapes

• Seedless oranges

• Seedless watermelon

• Seedless pineapple etc...

RAW FISH:

Raw fish diets can lead to parasite-worm infections as well as mercury poisoning. This is because animals accumulate and concentrate toxicity from the environment and no places are left on Earth that are entirely devoid of pollution. It is especially true with fish, as they live in and constantly filter impure water leaving toxins in their tissues.
